The CAM Modules are the digital equivalent to an analogue decoder. Their function is to restrict access to various channel bouquets - the broadcaster supplies a card to allow you access their stations! The usual restrictions are applied where you live.

in Croatia, "SRG" in Switzerland, "TeleVisa" in Spain, "Tele Danmark" in
Denmark ", "SVT" + "Senda" in Sweden," NRK" in Norway, "ALPHA
DIGITAL"
Hellas, "ART" in the middle east, "NTV Int" in Russia as well as
European-wide through "BBC Worldwide" and the Pornosendern "Sex View", "SCT/RCT"

in completely Europe.
The Nagravision CAM has been adopted by :
"Via Digital" and "RTVE" in Spain, "Tv Cabo" in Portugal,
"Star Digital" in Turkey, "Polsat" in Poland, "Teleclub" (DVB C) in the
Schweiz), "ABS CBN Mux " and "Az TV1".
The PowerVu CAM has been adopted by :
(mostly cable
distribution providers) SIS, Front Row, Carlton but not DTH.

As far as the digital decoder for Sky
Digital UK ( Sky Digibox
) is concerned, it uses a new CAM Module
which is called NDS
Videoguard. This system is a no removable part of
the Digibox and it can be possessed only by buying it from Sky Digital
dealers.
In the future the system is expected also as CI
module. Other offerers those in NDS send are: "Stream" in Italy, "OTE" in
Greece and "YES" in Israel.
Rarely, if ever, a CAM is on its own enough to give
you access to a channel or bouquet (
ex. NO-ZAP
or
FREE
X
TV ), most
likely you'll need a card too.
